(Photo by Heath Haussamen)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.investors.com\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Investors.com<\/a> is out with a new article asserting that tea party candidates are \u201crookies no more,\u201d and it\u2019s pointing to Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/sowardsforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Sowards<\/a> of Las Cruces as one candidate who is ready to rumble in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Sowards, a declared candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/02\/bingaman-says-he%E2%80%99s-made-his-best-effort\/\" target=\"_blank\">vacated by Democrat Jeff Bingaman<\/a>, attended a tea party convention in Phoenix this weekend \u2013 the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summit11.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">American Policy Summit<\/a> \u2013 and received a prominent mention in the article about the event.<\/p>\n<p>From the article, which you can read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.investors.com\/NewsAndAnalysis\/Article\/564506\/201102281918\/Tea-Party-Prepares-To-Take-On-Big-Labor.htm\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSome GOP presidential hopefuls attended \u2013 ex-Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Rep. Ron Paul and businessman Herman Cain. They weren\u2019t the only ones promoting their candidacies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018I want to push power out of Washington and to the states,\u2019 said Greg Sowards, who is running for the GOP nomination for the New Mexico Senate seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncumbent Democrat Jeff Bingaman won\u2019t run for re-election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSowards, who owns several day care centers in New Mexico, finished fourth in the 2008 GOP primary for the 2nd congressional district. His 1996 bid to \u2018primary\u2019 incumbent GOP Rep. Joe Skeen may give him a good Tea Party pedigree.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The event included training for local tea party activists and discussion of policy issues including the U.S. Constitution, health care and the debt ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>Sowards is one of two candidates who have formally entered the Senate race, along with Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billenglish4senate.org\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">William S. English<\/a>.
