Her husband is a firefighter and past secretary and vice president of the organization, and <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Trujillo<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has helped with fundraisers in the past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R4zIjMTQ8xI\/AAAAAAAAEgU\/qcub1ptrFF0\/s1600-h\/SpecialElectionLogo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R4zIjMTQ8xI\/AAAAAAAAEgU\/qcub1ptrFF0\/s200\/SpecialElectionLogo.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155716180355379986\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>\u201cWith the recent growth and population increase in District Six, our citizens need a strong voice on city council that will advocate for public safety,\u201d union President Jason Smith said in a statement released by Trujillo\u2019s campaign. \u201c&#8230; Because of this history, we feel that Karen will always be a proponent of fire safety, and that the citizens she serves will be able to count on her to ensure public safety issues are addressed in a timely matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The other candidates in the race are former Do\u00f1a Ana County Magistrate Judge Patrick J. Curran; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votejoy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lawrence Joy<\/a>, the owner of a direct mail advertising firm and the voice of NMSU\u2019s marching band; Berchard Ray Shipley, who has a background in the military, commercial property management and community planning; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharonthomasforcitycouncil.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sharon Thomas<\/a>, former head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/qga-nm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quality Growth Alliance<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The union representing Las Cruces firefighters has endorsed Karen Trujillo\u2019s bid for the open District 6 seat on the Las Cruces City Council.
