\"\"<\/a>Public Regulation Commission Chairman Ben R. Luj\u00e1n will announce Friday that he\u2019s running for the Third Congressional District seat being vacated by Tom Udall<\/a>. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Luj\u00e1n will hold a news conference at 11:45 a.m. at the Roundhouse<\/a> in Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, and a second event at the Best Western Hotel, 1465 Rio Rancho Boulevard<\/a> in Rio Rancho, at 6 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday he plans to visit Las Vegas<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>, Mora Taos, Espa\u00f1ola and Pojoaque.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Luj\u00e1n, the son of House Speaker Ben Lujan<\/a>, said in a news release that 2008 is \u201cone of the most important elections of our lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cThis election will impact generations to come. Together we can make a positive difference that will benefit the citizens of New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and hold the Bush Administration accountable for its disastrous policies,\u201d he said. \u201cNew Mexicans want to change the misguided policies and uncompromising opposition to our Democratic ideals and principles so that we can make positive progress to take America<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> in a new, improved direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the help of New Mexico<\/st1:state>\u2019s voters, I will continue to keep fighting for and protecting the interests of the people of New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> in Congress,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For three years, Luj\u00e1n has served as a member of the PRC, his first elected position. The seat is up for grabs next year, and he won\u2019t seek re-election since he\u2019s running for Congress.<\/p>\n

Luj\u00e1n joins Santa Fe County Commissioner Harry B. Montoya<\/a>, state Indian Affairs Secretary Benny Shendo Jr. and Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> green builder Don Wiviott<\/a> in the race for the Democratic Party\u2019s nomination for the congressional seat. One Republican – Marco E. Gonzales, an attorney who spent 10 years working for U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici<\/a> as a defense appropriations specialist \u2013 is running.
