{"id":2623,"date":"2007-12-10T15:34:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-10T21:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/12\/steinborn-to-seek-re-election-not-pearces-seat\/"},"modified":"2007-12-10T15:34:00","modified_gmt":"2007-12-10T21:34:00","slug":"steinborn-to-seek-re-election-not-pearces-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/12\/steinborn-to-seek-re-election-not-pearces-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Steinborn to seek re-election, not Pearce&#8217;s seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RxaYbd0SX1I\/AAAAAAAADu0\/fvsoHXbvc5A\/s1600-h\/Steinborn,+Jeff.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RxaYbd0SX1I\/AAAAAAAADu0\/fvsoHXbvc5A\/s200\/Steinborn,+Jeff.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122449223808343890\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">State Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=321&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Steinborn<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, announced today that he won\u2019t run for the Second Congressional District seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/pearce.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, but will seek re-election next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/commissioners\/district4\" target=\"_blank\">Kent Evans<\/a>, a Republican, is the only other candidate who has entered the race for the New Mexico House <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002HouseDistricts\/House37.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 37<\/a> seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThere are many challenges before us in state government and our local community that need addressing,\u201d Steinborn said in a news release. \u201cSince being elected to the state House, I have played a leadership role in working to meet our state\u2019s health-care needs, instituting important ethics and lobbying reform and bringing a critically needed focus to our border region. I would like to continue this work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Steinborn\u2019s news release included a quote from Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> praising the representative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cJeff Steinborn has been a highly effective state representative, helping to pass legislation to secure the border and assisting me as a valuable member of my ethics reform task force,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. \u201cThe people of <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> expect big things from Jeff, and he continues to deliver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Steinborn, in the news release, said four of his bills were signed into law during his first legislative session earlier this year. He said he secured $2 million in funding for the county, and pointed out that he helped draft the reform of the state\u2019s housing authority system that was approved this year and served on the governor\u2019s ethics reform task force. He said he has held eight community meetings in the district since being elected last November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThrough extensive community meetings, constituent surveys and communication during the legislative session, I hope to have been a true representative of the people and an accessible state representative,\u201d Steinborn said. \u201cThere is much more to be done, and I look forward to working with everyone in House District 37 to continue to make our community and state the best it can be.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Rep.
