Spokespersons for Ch\u00e1vez and Udall could not immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Daily <st1:place st=\"on\">Kos<\/st1:place> reported that Ch\u00e1vez will drop out tonight, and an announcement is expected at 6 p.m. <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Independent and internal polls have repeatedly shown Udall as much stronger than Ch\u00e1vez against both Republicans seeking their party\u2019s nomination for <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Senate<\/st1:city>, <st1:country-region st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> Reps. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>. While Ch\u00e1vez has been fairly even with both Republicans in polls, Udall has been 15-18 points ahead of both.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There\u2019s no immediate word on what Ch\u00e1vez plans to do next. His current mayoral term runs through 2009.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Stay tuned.
