Aubrey L. Dunn Jr. announced today that he\u2019s running for the Second Congressional District seat being vacated by Steve Pearce<\/a>, making him the third Republican to enter the race.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are talking about immigration \u2018reform,\u2019 but I believe it\u2019s time we enforce the laws that are already on the books,\u201d Dunn said in a news release. \u201cI\u2019ll be a strong voice in Congress for protecting our border and fighting illegal immigration.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Dunn said he is signing the taxpayer protection pledge from Americans for Tax Reform<\/a>, which asks candidates to \u201coppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and or businesses.\u201d According to the group\u2019s Web site, no other candidate in the Second Congressional District has signed the pledge.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Democrats in control of Congress, it\u2019s only a matter of time before they start pushing tax increases on the American people,\u201d Dunn said. \u201cI\u2019ll fight the Democrats at every turn and ensure that American families keep more of their hard-earned money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Dunn, 51, is a graduate of Alamogordo<\/st1:placename> High School<\/st1:placetype> and Colorado<\/st1:placename> State<\/st1:placetype> University<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>. A native New Mexican, he retired as president and chief executive officer of First Federal Bank in Roswell<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> in February.<\/p>\n

Dunn is a former member of the board of directors for the New Mexico Bankers Association and has been active in economic development in Otero and Chaves counties. He currently serves as chairman of the Chaves County Soil and Water Conservation District and is a member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association.<\/p>\n

\n

Dunn resides in Lincoln<\/st1:placename> County<\/st1:placetype> with Robin \u2013 his wife of 28 years \u2013 and they operate a cattle ranch 50 miles northwest of Roswell<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>. The Dunns have three children attending college \u2013 Blair, Jamie and Jed.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The other Republicans who have entered the race are former Bernalillo County GOP executive director Bob Cornelius<\/a> and restaurant-chain owner and rancher Ed Tinsley<\/a>. Several others are considering the race.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

On the Democratic side, state Rep. Joseph Cervantes<\/a>, retired Presbyterian minister Al Kissling<\/a>, Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner Bill McCamley<\/a>, Roswell businessman and retired teacher Frank McKinnon<\/a> and former Lea County Commissioner Harry Teague<\/a> are running.<\/p>\n
