{"id":2591,"date":"2007-12-03T16:19:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-03T22:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/12\/hispano-chamber-president-to-run-for-city-council\/"},"modified":"2007-12-03T16:19:00","modified_gmt":"2007-12-03T22:19:00","slug":"hispano-chamber-president-to-run-for-city-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/12\/hispano-chamber-president-to-run-for-city-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Hispano Chamber president to run for city council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R1VzirF27YI\/AAAAAAAAEIg\/hNyMaGMa-VM\/s1600-h\/Trujillo,+Karen.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R1VzirF27YI\/AAAAAAAAEIg\/hNyMaGMa-VM\/s200\/Trujillo,+Karen.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5140141589233331586\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.karentrujillo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karen Trujillo<\/a>, a real-estate broker and president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hispanochamberlc.org\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Hispano Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces<\/a>, announced today that she is running for the open <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haussamen.com\/Council_6.gif\" target=\"_blank\">District 6<\/a> seat on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces City Council<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Trujillo<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s top goal, according to a news release from her campaign, is to bring a moderate voice to a council she says is often divided.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe city council has a responsibility to keep the benefits to all Las Crucens in mind when making decisions,\u201d she said. \u201cFor example, growth is necessary, but when voting on growth there so many elements that have to be considered to include the city\u2019s resources, infrastructure and strategic plan. I want to focus on preserving <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>, the \u2018Cruces\u2019 we all love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R4zGIMTQ8wI\/AAAAAAAAEgM\/skPdY6XVb6A\/s1600-h\/SpecialElectionLogo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R4zGIMTQ8wI\/AAAAAAAAEgM\/skPdY6XVb6A\/s200\/SpecialElectionLogo.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155713517475656450\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Trujillo<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> joins former Do\u00f1a Ana County Magistrate Judge Patrick J. Curran and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votejoy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lawrence Joy<\/a>, the owner of a direct mail advertising firm and the voice of NMSU\u2019s marching band, in the race, and others are considering running. The special election is being held Jan. 15 to replace <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/mayor.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">Ken Miyagishima<\/a>, who was elected mayor earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Candidates will file to run on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Trujillo<\/st1:city> said she also stands for \u201cstrong local businesses, responsible growth, steady prosperity and, most important, a passion for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.\u201d She has already been talking with residents while gathering the signatures required to run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of positive feedback,\u201d she said. \u201cIt seems we all have the same concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Trujillo<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is a member of a number of other community boards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-style: italic;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">A prior version of this posting incorrectly identified <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Trujillo<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> as a stock broker.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Karen Trujillo, a real-estate broker and president of the Hispano Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces, announced today that she is running for the open District 6 seat on the Las Cruces City Council.
