{"id":2588,"date":"2007-12-03T09:28:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-03T15:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/12\/sandel-wont-run-for-congress\/"},"modified":"2007-12-03T09:28:00","modified_gmt":"2007-12-03T15:28:00","slug":"sandel-wont-run-for-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/12\/sandel-wont-run-for-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"Sandel won&#8217;t run for Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R1Qg07F27RI\/AAAAAAAAEHo\/XEa95xwKMn4\/s1600-R\/Sandel,+Jason.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R1Qg07F27RI\/AAAAAAAAEHo\/V5mK6JFTDC4\/s200\/Sandel,+Jason.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5139769168324128018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The recent death of his grandmother is one of the reasons Farmington City Councilor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmtn.org\/city_government\/administration\/17\/jason_sandel.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Sandel<\/a> cited this weekend in announcing that he won\u2019t seek the Third Congressional District seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udallforusall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a>, who is running for U.S. Senate.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cEnduring this experience provided me with a fresh perspective on my personal life in that it reinforced the importance of spending quality time with my family,\u201d he said in a prepared statement. \u201cI know that my time with those I love is relatively short and I really don\u2019t want to squander it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sandel, 33 and a Democrat, also cited the fact that he has a six-year-old daughter and a son who is due to be born in February. In addition, he is working on several major projects through the family business, Aztec Well Servicing, and was recently elected chairman of the Four Corners Safety Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cMore importantly, our business model from day one has been for employees to be treated like family, and that is difficult to do from <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:city> <st1:state st=\"on\">D.C.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Democrats Harry Montoya, a <st1:placename st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype> commissioner, and <a href=\"http:\/\/donfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Don Wiviott<\/a>, a <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> green builder, have already entered the race. Several others, including former Santa Fe County Commissioner Javier Gonzales, Public Regulation Commission Chairman Ben Ray Lujan, Espa\u00f1ola Mayor Joe Maestas, Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano and former state Rep. Patsy Trujillo are considering the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">No Republicans have entered the race, but Los Alamos National Laboratory engineer Ron Dolin and state Rep. Brian Moore are considering running.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sandel said he is happy to continue serving on the city council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIn 2006 I ran for city council to serve <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, not as a stepping stone to some higher office,\u201d he said. \u201cWhile community service may take many different shapes in the future; there is plenty of time for something more and greater later. \u2026 We\u2019ve made progress, but there is so much more to do.
