Now, another Bushie wants the gig. Por favor. Enough of that, I say. Ya! The good news? Polls show that the person with the best shot in CD-01 is a Hispanic woman Democrat. Check, check, triple check. Buenisimo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She wrote that, if she runs, she will contribute some of her own money to the campaign, but she\u2019s also seeking donations. If she raises $5,000 through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donortownsquare.com\/donate_redir.aspx?ai=595&amp;qs=3LDXP\" target=\"_blank\">a site she set up<\/a>, she\u2019ll file with the Federal Election Commission (as required at the $5,000 threshold). If she doesn\u2019t raise the money, she wrote, \u201cthen I\u2019ll know I\u2019m not in any shape to compete against anybody, and I\u2019ll go back to writing books. (By the way, I have three in the pipeline and need an excuse to slow down. Give me one?)\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She wrote that the fundraising effort is \u201caimed at raising money for me to travel and make phone calls to ascertain interest in my candidacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Valdes-Rodriguez is 38 and a former journalist who worked at the Albuquerque Tribune, Boston Globe and Los Angeles Times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On the Democratic side, attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonadamsforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jon Adams<\/a>, teacher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.call4democracy.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Call<\/a>, Albuquerque City Councilor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinheinrich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a> and former state Health Secretary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michellelujangrishamforcongress.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Michelle Lujan Grisham<\/a> are running for the House seat. Republicans running are state Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senatorcarraro.com\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Carraro<\/a> and Bernalillo County Sheriff <a href=\"http:\/\/www.darrenwhiteforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Darren White<\/a>. White is seen by many as the frontrunner in the race, and he\u2019s someone about whom Valdes-Rodriguez had some kind words on her blog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Not that she likes him as a politician. In fact, she wrote on her blog that \u201cthe thought of him in Congress gives me nightmares.\u201d However, she wrote, she\u2019s met him and has \u201ca favorable opinion of him as a human being.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This is what Valdes-Rodriguez wrote on her blog about her own statement that she likes White as a human being:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cCue all political consultants around the nation shaking their heads at me in utter dismay,\u201d she wrote. \u201cCue them all crying, in a chorus of reproach, \u2018You idiot!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A nationally known fiction writer who lives in Albuquerque is testing the waters for a possible congressional run.
