That made it\u00a0the 19th most-read post in 2016.<\/p>\n The commentary cut through the political spin to explain how the state toughened penalties for fatal child abuse in 2003. It was a topic of interest in 2016 because of several\u00a0horrific crimes<\/a>. A bill\u00a0that would have\u00a0further\u00a0toughened child abuse penalties<\/a>\u00a0failed to gain approval during a special session of the N.M.
