He also plans a party at 7:30 p.m. at the <st1:placename st=\"on\">Green<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Palace<\/st1:placetype>, <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;time=&amp;date=&amp;ttype=&amp;q=209+E.+Palace+Ave,+santa+fe&amp;sll=35.682468,-105.938179&amp;sspn=0.009377,0.014935&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=35.6874,-105.938051&amp;spn=0.009376,0.014935&amp;z=16&amp;iwloc=addr&amp;om=1\" target=\"_blank\">209 E. Palace Ave.<\/a> in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Lehrman has a tough road ahead. He\u2019s facing Albuquerque Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martychavez.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Ch\u00e1vez<\/a> and U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udallforusall.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> in the primary and, if he somehow gets past them, would have to take on either U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> in the general election. Though he shares many of Udall\u2019s political views, Lehrman decided to stay in the race after Udall entered it because the congressman doesn\u2019t support the impeachment of the president and vice president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201c<st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s leaders, including Senate candidate Tom Udall, have recently been asked to step forward and provide this leadership and representation, but they have failed,\u201d Lehrman said in a release. \u201cWhether it be impeachment, exposing the propagandistic \u2018War on Terror\u2019 or aggressively changing the mission of Los Alamos National Labs to end the homegrown terror of nuclear warfare, our local and national leaders have failed, and it is time they be challenged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Lehrman said he is a \u201cfamily man and farmer, a citizen, an ecological and peace activist, and now an editor and publisher.\u201d He was a voting member of the state\u2019s election reform task force that helped implement the new paper-ballot system, and also led the lobbying effort last year for a bill in the state Senate supporting the impeachment of the president and vice president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cStill, some wonder at my motivation, and question my credentials to hold office,\u201d he said. \u201cIn these dangerous times, courage is the most important of the qualities necessary in a senator: the courage to filibuster war, corporate globalization and assaults on our civil liberties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In his release, he criticized Udall, saying he has been unwilling to represent the state\u2019s Democrats, who voted in March 2006 to support impeaching the president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHow does Udall respond to the voice of the people? He votes to table the impeachment resolution that the courageous Representative Dennis Kucinich and 85 other Democrats brought to the floor of Congress just weeks ago,\u201d Lehrman said. \u201cTwo things are necessary in a leader: the willingness to represent the people and to be courageous in time of crisis. I wish I could believe Tom Udall was such a leader, but his actions prove otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIf you can\u2019t trust your representatives to represent you on the issues, you have to run against them,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s what democracy requires of its citizens, and if our cherished form of government is to be successful, good people, not just professional politicians, must run for office and win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Lehrman was recently interviewed on the <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Mexico<\/st1:state> in Focus program in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> about his candidacy.
