On Nov. 9, his Real Clear Politics average of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2008\/president\/ia\/iowa_democratic_caucus-208.html\" target=\"_blank\">recent polls in Iowa<\/a> was 7.8 percent, and his average of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2008\/president\/nh\/new_hampshire_democratic_primary-194.html\" target=\"_blank\">recent polls in New Hampshire<\/a> was 6.8 percent. Today, his average in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> is 9.8 percent, and in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> it\u2019s 8.5 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state>, he\u2019s still more than 12 points behind the third-place <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnedwards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Edwards<\/a> in recent polls, but in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, he\u2019s only five points behind the former senator in the Real Clear Politics average. And in one <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2007\/POLITICS\/11\/20\/poll.dems.nh\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">recent New Hampshire poll<\/a>, conducted for CNN and WMUR in <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Hampshire<\/st1:state>, <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> and Edwards were statistically tied \u2013 12 percent for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> to 13 percent for Edwards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhen it comes to <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, I\u2019m moving up. I\u2019m tied for third in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> with Sen. Edwards,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> said today in an interview with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xmradio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">XM Satellite Radio<\/a>, a segment in which I participated as a pundit commenting on <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s presidential run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> isn\u2019t talking at this point about winning either state. He\u2019s hoping to finish third or better in both, betting that will lead to increased money and prominence that will allow him to compete in other primaries leading up to Feb. 5, the day so many states will hold primaries that the Democratic and Republican Party nominations will likely be finalized.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIf I can finish in the top three in (<st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state>), I\u2019m on my way to being a major contender,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said today. \u201c\u2026 I feel very strongly that I\u2019ve got momentum and I can win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\">On Edwards\u2019 heels<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Nation put it this way in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/blogs\/campaignmatters?bid=45&amp;pid=253509\" target=\"_blank\">Nov. 21 article<\/a>, writing about the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New   Hampshire<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> primary:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe action is with New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson\u2026 If the pattern holds, the New Mexican will easily overtake Edwards and could begin closing in on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">(Barack) Obama<\/a> by the time New Hampshire holds its first-in-the-nation primary,\u201d the article states. \u201cIt is worth noting that, according to the polls, <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> is now viewed as more experienced than either Obama or Edwards by the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> voters. His numbers are dramatically up in other categories, as well, especially on measures of trust \u2013 the New Mexican now leads <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">(Hillary) Clinton<\/a> in this category.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Also significant is the fact that, in the CNN poll, 47 percent of likely <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> Democratic primary voters said they still have no idea who they\u2019re going to vote for.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s a horserace. It\u2019s wide open,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said of the first two presidential nominating contests. \u201c<st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> are the lynchpins that catapult you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> will hold its first-in-the-nation caucus on Jan. 3. <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>\u2019s primary, the first in the nation, is on Jan. 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s resurgence<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> was the first presidential candidate to run television commercials in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> in the late spring, which helped catapult him to about 10 percent in polls in both states by June 30. After that, he began a slow, steady decline that led many to count him out. Then the current climb began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The resurgence coincided with <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> shifting staff, but it also came at the same time that Obama and Edwards began a heavy assault on frontrunner <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> that is continuing. <st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city> has lost some support while <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has gained. It also comes as <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s campaign is attempting to match Clinton and Obama dollar for dollar in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New   Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> television advertising. His campaign unveiled <a href=\"http:\/\/action.richardsonforpresident.com\/page\/content\/ads\/boldplan\/\" target=\"_blank\">a new ad<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The gains have <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s campaign excited. It has begun filling busses with New Mexicans and sending them to <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Hampshire<\/st1:state> to campaign for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. That will continue until voters in both states pick their nominees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe race is flattening out. The poll numbers are in flux. And the only candidate who has gained consistently in all polls is Bill Richardson,\u201d campaign manager Dave Contarino wrote in an e-mail to supporters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The bottom line?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201c<st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is moving up. He could stall. But if he keeps going in the direction he\u2019s headed in, the governor could yet be a serious contender in the critical first tests of the Democratic race,\u201d The Nation article states.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With 36 days until the Iowa Caucus and 41 days until the New Hampshire Primary, Gov.
