On the Democratic side, state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cervantes4nm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Cervantes<\/a>, retired Presbyterian minister <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kisslingforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Al Kissling<\/a>, Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a>, Roswell businessman and retired teacher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frankmckinnonforcongress.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Frank McKinnon<\/a> and former Lea County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryteagueforcongress08.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Teague<\/a> are all running.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley, a rancher and restaurant-chain owner, ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2002. He said in a news release last week that he has \u201cwaited for the right time and circumstances to make a run for this congressional seat,\u201d and the time is now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m someone who will go to <st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:state> to represent our <st1:place st=\"on\">Southern New Mexico<\/st1:place> values,\u201d Tinsley said. \u201cI\u2019m committed to upholding the Second Amendment, supporting a tough but fair immigration policy, working hard to resolve the health care issues we face, addressing the safety needs of Americans and keeping a tight reign on government spending.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He also said he has received more than $221,000 in contributions since announcing on Nov. 7 that he was seriously considering the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cFrom ranching, to the oil and gas industry, to tourism and the hospitality and restaurant industry \u2013 and the families who are the heartbeat of each of these businesses \u2013 I am part of each,\u201d he said in the release. \u201cI know and understand our challenges and our values in the second district. Through my experience as an officer of the National Restaurant Association, and most recently as chairman of the board, I know how to get things done in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:city>, <st1:state st=\"on\">D.C.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> for my constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R0sLxDgth8I\/AAAAAAAAEDQ\/cVBjoTthuVk\/s1600-h\/Cornelius,+Bob.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R0sLxDgth8I\/AAAAAAAAEDQ\/cVBjoTthuVk\/s200\/Cornelius,+Bob.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5137212737330186178\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Cornelius, a former Bernalillo County GOP executive director, had previously announced that he had moved back to his hometown of Tatum with the intention to run. He formally announced his candidacy in a news release sent on Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOne of the things I am most thankful for is that I was lucky enough to have spent most of my life here in southern <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was here that I learned about family, about values, and about the importance of character. I\u2019m running for Congress because we deserve someone in Washington who understands our problems and shares our values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Cornelius also praised Pearce for his service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been lucky these past few years to be represented by Congressman Steve Pearce,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s time for us to elect a new congressman who will represent us in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> with the same integrity and conviction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=V4tK7zxDzPc\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube video<\/a> released on Thanksgiving, Cornelius took a shot at wealthy candidates. There are at least three in the race who plan to pledge some of their own money to their campaigns \u2013 Tinsley, Cervantes and Teague.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe will not stand for candidates who will try to buy elections. <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> has plenty of millionaires, and look where it\u2019s gotten us,\u201d he said. \u201cThe American people have lost confidence in their elected officials, and rightfully so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Cornelius also appealed for help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSome candidates can write themselves a check and try to buy a seat in Congress, but that\u2019s not me,\u201d he said in the video.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s Cornelius\u2019 YouTube video:<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"420\" height=\"355\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/V4tK7zxDzPc&#038;rel=1\"><\/param><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/V4tK7zxDzPc&#038;rel=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" wmode=\"transparent\" width=\"420\" height=\"355\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 11:50 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley said he had raised $230,550 as of Thanksgiving Day. It\u2019s all from outside sources.
