{"id":2547,"date":"2007-11-16T12:06:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-16T18:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/republican-considers-another-run-at-udalls-seat\/"},"modified":"2007-11-16T12:06:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-16T18:06:00","slug":"republican-considers-another-run-at-udalls-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/republican-considers-another-run-at-udalls-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Republican considers another run at Udall&#8217;s seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ron Dolin, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udallforusall.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> last year, is considering running again now that Udall is vacating the seat to run for Senate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Dolin, an engineer at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanl.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Los Alamos National Laboratory<\/a>, is the only Republican who has confirmed that he\u2019s considering running for the Third Congressional District seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">\u201cI am considering a run for U.S. Congress in the third district,\u201d Dolin said. \u201cNow is that rare moment in <st1:place st=\"on\">Northern New Mexico<\/st1:place> when a true grass-roots candidate has the ability to make a difference. I very much believe that the nation and <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> needs someone outside the political dynasties\/inner-circles to represent the people of Northern New Mexico in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Dolin is also a small-business owner and adjunct professor at the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype>  of <st1:placename st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>. He said those points and the facts that he is married to an immigrant, grew up on a reservation in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">South Dakota<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, is an expert on homeland security and is a \u201cpragmatic environmentalist\u201d means he represents \u201c<span style=\"color:black;\">the economic, educational, job security, agricultural, immigration, border security, environmental and community concerns unique to Northern New Mexicans.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">However, Dolin said, there\u2019s a challenge to him running.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">As a political outsider I am unencumbered, which means I am able to represent the best interests of the people,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2026 The unfortunate reality of politics as it has devolved is that it takes money to successfully run for office. The GOP is not willing to invest in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s third district and I am not independently wealthy. I was recently told by a senior political official that it is more important to find candidates with money than it is to promote candidates with vote-worthy ideas, principles and positions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">\u201cI am trying to line up grass roots financial support, but the very reason I would be a people\u2019s representative is the reason I don\u2019t have the funds necessary to run a successful campaign; I am not owned by, or a puppet for, special interest,\u201d Dolin said. \u201c\u2026 I remain determined to help <st1:place st=\"on\">Northern New  Mexico<\/st1:place> reclaim the representative principles envisioned by our founding fathers, principles that have been lost by today\u2019s political estate. I remain willing to set aside my personal and highly successful ambitions to serve my nation and the people of <st1:place st=\"on\">Northern New Mexico<\/st1:place> in this most critical moment in history.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Democrats <a href=\"http:\/\/donfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Don Wiviott<\/a> and Santa Fe County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafecounty.org\/about_us\/harry_montoya.php\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Montoya<\/a> have both entered the Third Congressional District race, and a number of others are seriously considering it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ron Dolin, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Rep.
