{"id":2529,"date":"2007-11-13T12:47:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-13T18:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/at-least-four-las-crucens-considering-district-6-race\/"},"modified":"2007-11-13T12:47:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-13T18:47:00","slug":"at-least-four-las-crucens-considering-district-6-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/at-least-four-las-crucens-considering-district-6-race\/","title":{"rendered":"At least four Las Crucens considering District 6 race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I reported last week that Las Crucen <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/11\/joy-may-seek-miyagishimas-council-seat.html\">Lawrence Joy<\/a> was seriously considering running for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/district6.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">District 6<\/a> seat on the Las Cruces City Council that is being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kenforlcmayor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ken Miyagishima<\/a>, who was elected mayor last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/news\/ci_7430807\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a> has added four more names to the list of potential candidates. They are:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 Pat Curran, a former county magistrate judge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 Sherry Thomas, head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/qga-nm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quality Growth Alliance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 Edward Fernandez, a former <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcps.k12.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces Public Schools<\/a> administrator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The city clerk plans to hold the special election sometime in January, and will set final dates for the election and candidate filing later this week. The election is also dependent on the likelihood that Miyagishima\u2019s mayoral victory survives a coming challenge by outgoing Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmattiace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Mattiace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 1:20 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.karentrujillo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karen R. Trujillo<\/a>, a real-estate broker who is also president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hispanochamberlc.org\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Hispano Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces<\/a>, confirmed that she\u2019s also seriously considering running for the District 6 seat on the city council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am considering it and looking at all options and strategic planning for such a short race,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I reported last week that Las Crucen Lawrence Joy was seriously considering running for the District 6 seat on the Las Cruces City Council that is being vacated by Ken Miyagishima, who was elected mayor last week.
