But that isn\u2019t stopping him from trying to use their favored method of communication \u2013 the Internet \u2013 to reach voters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A couple of weeks after he held a <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/chvez-reaches-out-to-progressives.html\">conference call<\/a> with progressive bloggers in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New   Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> to try to begin a dialogue, the mayor isn\u2019t getting any love \u2013 and that\u2019s an understatement. U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udallforusall.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a>, who just jumped into the race, is getting just about all the support of progressive Democrats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Barbara Wold, who was on the conference call with Ch\u00e1vez and runs the site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracyfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democracy for New Mexico<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracyfornewmexico.com\/democracy_for_new_mexico\/2007\/11\/marty-chavez-fo.html#more\" target=\"_blank\">wrote today<\/a> that Ch\u00e1vez has been beaten up in the blogosphere since entering the race, and she links to some of the postings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI guess that\u2019s what happens when a politico has a sudden expedient ephiphany (sic) that leads him to try to pretend he\u2019s someone he\u2019s not in order climb up a big, big rung on the political scale,\u201d she wrote. \u201cMarty has just burned too many bridges and backstabbed too many people to get away with it. Too many in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> know him for who and what he is, no matter how many top notch campaign consultants he hires to repaint the picture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And Markos Moulitsas Z\u00faniga, who runs the nationally influential liberal blog <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Kos<\/a>, had some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/storyonly\/2007\/11\/12\/181610\/89\" target=\"_blank\">incredibly harsh words<\/a> for Ch\u00e1vez on Monday:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cEveryone wants Ch\u00e1vez out of the primary, suggesting he run for one of the House seats opened up by this Senate race. Me, I\u2019d rather see Ch\u00e1vez\u2019 career destroyed by Udall in this primary once and for all,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThe last thing we need is his corrupt ass in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> in the House, stinking up the Democratic brand and making Latinos look bad. So I hope he\u2019s stupid enough to stay in the Senate race. I\u2019ll have fun seeing him go down in flames.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The criticism isn\u2019t deterring Ch\u00e1vez, however. He\u2019s vowed to stay in the race despite pressure to get out, and continues saying his record makes him better suited than Udall for a general-election match-up against <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And he\u2019s continuing to reach out through the Internet. At 6 p.m. today, Ch\u00e1vez will hold an online, video town-hall meeting, which you can attend by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/townhall.martychavez.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. He will take questions, and wants feedback on the Iraq war, health care, the environment, the economy and \u201chow to reverse the damaging policies of the Bush Administration,\u201d according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis will not be a canned campaign speech,\u201d Ch\u00e1vez said in the release. \u201cThis is a chance for you to join hundreds of your fellow citizens for an online conversation about the future of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">No special equipment, beyond an internet connection and Web browser, is needed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Progressive Democrats sure aren\u2019t making the road ahead in the U.S. Senate race easy for Albuquerque Mayor Martin Ch\u00e1vez.
