Andy Nu\u00f1ez, D-Hatch<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After a bipartisan coalition to oust House Speaker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HLUJA\">Ben Luj\u00e1n<\/a> fell apart on Tuesday, Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HNUNE\">Andy Nu\u00f1ez<\/a>, D-Hatch, refused to cast a vote for speaker, instead saying \u201cpresent\u201d when he was asked to vote.<\/p>\n<p>Had he cast a vote, Nu\u00f1ez told NMPolitics.net it would have been for Minority Leader <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HTAYT\">Tom Taylor<\/a>, R-Farmington, not Luj\u00e1n, a Democrat from Namb\u00e9. He said if he believed his vote would have helped Taylor win, he would have been willing to cross the aisle to get Luj\u00e1n out of the leadership position.<\/p>\n<p>But there was no point, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t vote for Luj\u00e1n,\u201d Nu\u00f1ez said. \u201cAnd I knew that Taylor didn\u2019t have the votes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nu\u00f1ez was the most outspoken Democrat involved in the coalition that tried to round up the votes to make <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HCERV\">Joseph Cervantes<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, the new speaker. The coalition fell apart Monday night <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/01\/politics-derailed-cervantes%E2%80%99-coalition\/\">under the weight of politics<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Had he cast a vote for speaker on Tuesday, Rep.
