{"id":2509,"date":"2007-11-08T15:39:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-08T21:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/joy-may-seek-miyagishimas-council-seat\/"},"modified":"2007-11-08T15:39:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-08T21:39:00","slug":"joy-may-seek-miyagishimas-council-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/joy-may-seek-miyagishimas-council-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Joy may seek Miyagishima&#8217;s council seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RzOCily4Y8I\/AAAAAAAAD9s\/pAnH6-KeTQc\/s1600-h\/Joy,+Lawrence.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RzOCily4Y8I\/AAAAAAAAD9s\/pAnH6-KeTQc\/s200\/Joy,+Lawrence.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130587931277812674\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/votejoy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lawrence Joy<\/a>, a well-known Las Crucen who has twice run unsuccessfully for state representative, said he is \u201cstrongly considering\u201d running for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/district6.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">District 6<\/a> seat on the Las Cruces City Council when a special election is held in January.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The seat will become vacant on Nov. 19 when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kenforlcmayor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ken Miyagishima<\/a> is sworn in as the city\u2019s new mayor. The clerk hasn\u2019t set a date for the special election \u2013 preparations will begin after the completion of the canvass of Tuesday\u2019s election later today \u2013 but it will be held sometime in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhen running for state representative I campaigned on bringing the legislative process back to the voters to include the community on all decisions. This idea will work very well on the city council and continue the efforts of Ken Miyagishima in District 6,\u201d Joy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He said he is concerned about issues beyond the development debate that overshadowed Tuesday\u2019s election, and listed problems in the city attorney\u2019s office, including high turnover, as one issue. In addition, he said he has the ability to build good working relationships with other councilors and leaders of other local governments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He also talked about sunshine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIf you want open government, I\u2019m it,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m going to bring it all out, provide it to everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Joy said he\u2019ll wait to see who else decides to run before making a final decision on the race, but said he\u2019s ready to go. Since he has run for office in the past, he has a fundraising letter that can be ready with only slight revisions and yard signs that need only small alterations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Joy unsuccessfully challenged state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=205&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Antonio Lujan<\/a> in 2004 and 2006.
