{"id":24970,"date":"2011-01-10T12:11:26","date_gmt":"2011-01-10T19:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=24970"},"modified":"2011-01-10T12:11:35","modified_gmt":"2011-01-10T19:11:35","slug":"abq-councilor-forms-cd1-exploratory-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/01\/abq-councilor-forms-cd1-exploratory-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"ABQ councilor forms CD1 exploratory committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_24971\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24971\" title=\"Lewis, Dan\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Lewis-Dan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dan Lewis<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Albuquerque City Councilor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/council\/councilors\/district-5\/district-5\">Dan Lewis<\/a>, a Republican, has formed an exploratory committee as he considers challenging U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/heinrich.house.gov\">Martin Heinrich<\/a>, D-N.M., next year.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis made the announcement Sunday as he unveiled his <a href=\"http:\/\/friendsofdanlewis.com\/\">exploratory committee\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve heard from many people who believe we are not well represented in Congress. They want and we need a better choice than what we have right now,\u201d Lewis said in a news release published on the site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need someone who understands the people who live, work, raise families, and go to school in our district,\u201d he said. \u201cWe need a Congressman who\u2019s focused on the unique challenges facing the people of central New Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lewis criticized Heinrich for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/12\/heinrich-wants-compromise-not-capitulation\/\">voting against<\/a> President Barack Obama\u2019s tax compromise with Republicans last month, saying Heinrich \u201cvoted against extending critical tax cuts for New Mexican workers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is someone who is out of sync and out of touch with the people he is supposed to be representing and fighting for,\u201d Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Americans want representatives who will advocate for \u201cfiscal restraint, less spending, and lower taxes,\u201d and said he would support policies that help create jobs.<\/p>\n<p>No one has formally entered the 2012 race against Heinrich.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Albuquerque City Councilor Dan Lewis, a Republican, has formed an exploratory committee as he considers challenging U.S. Rep.
