{"id":2466,"date":"2007-11-02T12:35:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-02T18:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/even-if-udall-vacates-it-wirth-wont-seek-house-seat\/"},"modified":"2007-11-02T12:35:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-02T18:35:00","slug":"even-if-udall-vacates-it-wirth-wont-seek-house-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/even-if-udall-vacates-it-wirth-wont-seek-house-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Even if Udall vacates it, Wirth won&#8217;t seek House seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RytuOh_pa5I\/AAAAAAAAD5E\/PwhjuJ8XJRc\/s1600-h\/Wirth,+Peter.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RytuOh_pa5I\/AAAAAAAAD5E\/PwhjuJ8XJRc\/s200\/Wirth,+Peter.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5128313796613991314\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Even if U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udallforusall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a>, D-N.M., runs for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a>, state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=303&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Wirth<\/a>, D-Santa Fe, won\u2019t run for his U.S. House seat, he said today.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Wirth reaffirmed his plan to run for the state Senate <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002SenateDistricts\/Senate25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 25<\/a> seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=304&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">John Grubesic<\/a>, and said an open U.S. House seat won\u2019t change that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhen Congressman Udall told me several weeks ago that he was staying in the U.S. House of Representatives, we made a family decision to seek the open District 25 state Senate seat,\u201d he said. \u201cWhile it is certainly humbling to have such interest in the possibility of me serving in <st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:state>, Carol and I are very happy with our choice and feel strongly that it makes the most sense at this time for our family, which is deeply rooted here in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa   Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, and for the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am honored to serve in the state legislature and look forward to meeting the voters in state Senate District 25,\u201d Wirth said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Udall hasn\u2019t made a formal announcement, but he\u2019s trying to put the pieces in place for a U.S. Senate run. He had previously opted against running for the Senate seat, but pressure from Democrats in <st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> caused him to reconsider.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Democrats who would strongly consider running for Udall\u2019s House seat if it comes open include state Auditor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saonm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hector Balderas<\/a>, Public Regulation Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/nmprc.state.nm.us\/commissioner3.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Ben R. Lujan<\/a>, New Mexico Highlands Regent Javier Gonzales, former Richardson Administration lawyer Geno Zamora and Judicial Standards Commission Director Jim Noel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Even if U.S. Rep.
