{"id":2460,"date":"2007-11-01T15:50:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-01T21:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/national-restaurant-group-pushes-tinsley-to-run\/"},"modified":"2007-11-01T15:50:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-01T21:50:00","slug":"national-restaurant-group-pushes-tinsley-to-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/11\/national-restaurant-group-pushes-tinsley-to-run\/","title":{"rendered":"National restaurant group pushes Tinsley to run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RypKQx_paxI\/AAAAAAAAD4E\/ETGUYkKQ9HY\/s1600-h\/Tinsley,+Ed.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RypKQx_paxI\/AAAAAAAAD4E\/ETGUYkKQ9HY\/s200\/Tinsley,+Ed.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127992777873386258\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.restaurant.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Restaurant Association<\/a> is pushing GOP restaurant chain owner Ed Tinsley to run for the Second Congressional District seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pearceforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley owns the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kbobs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">K-Bob\u2019s<\/a> chain of restaurants and, after he lost to Pearce in the 2002 primary, he became heavily involved in the influential group, serving last year as the chairman of its board.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley is expected to announce as early as next week whether he\u2019ll run for the congressional seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThroughout his many years of service on the National Restaurant Association board and during his term as chairman, Ed has demonstrated that he is not only a talented leader, but that he has a keen understanding of the issues that small businesses face,\u201d Dawn Sweeney, president and CEO of the association, said in a news release. \u201cAs chairman, Ed had a tremendous impact, representing the industry at White House meetings and on Capitol Hill. We encourage Ed to consider a run for Congress. He would make an exceptional representative of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New   Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s second district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The news release also included quotes from New Mexico Restaurant Association CEO Carol Wright, Host Hotels &amp; Resorts Chairman Richard E. Marriott, Golden Corral President and CEO Ted Fowler and Applebee\u2019s International Board Chairman Lloyd Hill, all either encouraging Tinsley to run or praising him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tom Hutchinson, owner of La Posta De Mesilla restaurant in Mesilla, was also quoted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cAs a constituent of the second district, I encourage Ed Tinsley to run for Congress,\u201d he said. \u201cEd is a New Mexican rancher who knows how <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> works. He understands the concerns of his neighbors and knows how to take those concerns to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and get results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Though Tinsley spends much of his time at a home he owns in <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city>, where his restaurant chain is based, he and his wife Meredith also own and operate a cattle ranch in Capitan, located in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Lincoln<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>. That\u2019s what makes him eligible to run for the seat, if he chooses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Some Republicans see his time spent in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> a weakness that could affect a Tinsley campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On the other hand, Tinsley is willing to help finance his own campaign, and today\u2019s news release from the restaurant group suggests he\u2019ll have a great deal of help raising money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">No Republican has entered the congressional race, but a number of others are also considering it, including Sierra County Republican Party Chair <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlgreer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">C. Earl Greer<\/a>; Phelps Anderson, who also ran unsuccessfully against Pearce in the 2002 primary; state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=184&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Don Bratton<\/a> of <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Hobbs<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>; Roswell Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Mike Kakuska; and former Roswell Mayor Bill Owen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On the Democratic side, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kisslingforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Al Kissling<\/a>, Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a> and former Lea County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/former-lea-county-commissioner-to-run.html\">Harry Teague<\/a> are running, and state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=186&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Cervantes<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, appears headed toward an announcement as early as next week that he\u2019s running.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Restaurant Association is pushing GOP restaurant chain owner Ed Tinsley to run for the Second Congressional District seat being vacated by Steve Pearce.
