{"id":2455,"date":"2007-10-31T16:54:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-31T22:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/teague-to-formally-announce-congressional-run-nov-8\/"},"modified":"2007-10-31T16:54:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-31T22:54:00","slug":"teague-to-formally-announce-congressional-run-nov-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/teague-to-formally-announce-congressional-run-nov-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Teague to formally announce congressional run Nov. 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RykH9R_pamI\/AAAAAAAAD2s\/QVpcQFXeBFk\/s1600-h\/Teague,+Harry.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RykH9R_pamI\/AAAAAAAAD2s\/QVpcQFXeBFk\/s200\/Teague,+Harry.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127638400121793122\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Former<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Lea<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/former-lea-county-commissioner-to-run.html\">Harry Teague<\/a> plans to formally announce on Nov. 8 that he\u2019s running for the Second Congressional District seat being vacated by GOP U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pearceforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague plans to make the announcement at 5 p.m. on that day at the Democratic Party headquarters in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Hobbs<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, located at <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;time=&amp;date=&amp;ttype=&amp;q=604+West+Broadway,+hobbs,+new+mexico&amp;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&amp;sspn=41.818029,61.347656&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;z=16&amp;iwloc=addr&amp;om=1\" target=\"_blank\">604 West Broadway<\/a>, according to a news release. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe issues our country is facing \u2013 ending the war in <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, health care coverage for all, immigration reform and access to a high quality education \u2013 are too important to ignore,\u201d Teague said. \u201cThe needs of the people of this district have been neglected for years, and we must have a strong voice who can fight for us on these issues and who can work with members of both parties to get things done for <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New   Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> and our nation. That is why I am running for Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague was a member of the Lea County Commission for eight years, serving as chairman for 3.5 years. He has also served as a board member for the Lea County Fair and the Boys and Girls club of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Hobbs<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. He helped start the Big Brothers\/Big Sisters program in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Lea<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI have worked hard my entire life and have tried to give as much back as possible to my community. Now I believe it is time for me to give back to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and to our country,\u201d Teague said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On the Democratic side, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kisslingforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Al Kissling<\/a> and Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a> are also running, and state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=186&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Cervantes<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, appears headed toward an announcement on or around the same day that Teague will formally announce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">No Republican has entered the race, but a number are considering it, including Sierra County Republican Party Chair <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlgreer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">C. Earl Greer<\/a>; Ed Tinsley and Phelps Anderson, who both ran unsuccessfully against Pearce in the 2002 primary; state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=184&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Don Bratton<\/a> of Hobbs; Roswell Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Mike Kakuska; and former Roswell Mayor Bill Owen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Lea County Commissioner Harry Teague plans to formally announce on Nov. 8 that he\u2019s running for the Second Congressional District seat being vacated by GOP U.S. Rep.
