Bill Richardson (Photo by Heath Haussamen)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A proposal to build a multi-million dollar casino in the middle of Albuquerque has come up quickly and quietly, and it\u2019s drawing some criticism from the area\u2019s state senator and a neighborhood association.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had no idea about building a huge new casino on the corner of Louisiana and Central,\u201d said state Sen. Tim Keller, D-Albuquerque, was quoted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/metro\/142342488960newsmetro12-14-10.htm\">the Albuquerque Journal<\/a> as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal, from Downs at Albuquerque president \u2013 and friend of the governor \u2013 Paul Blanchard would \u201cextend the racino\u2019s lease at Expo New Mexico for up to 40 years,\u201d the Journal reported.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal apparently will go before the State Fair Commission on Wednesday. The board\u2019s seven members were appointed by Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\">Bill Richardson<\/a>.
