{"id":2418,"date":"2007-10-23T13:33:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-23T19:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/activist-decides-to-run-for-house-instead-of-senate\/"},"modified":"2007-10-23T13:33:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-23T19:33:00","slug":"activist-decides-to-run-for-house-instead-of-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/activist-decides-to-run-for-house-instead-of-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"Activist decides to run for House instead of Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rx5Ms90SYMI\/AAAAAAAADxs\/4pwB1nRWQ_8\/s1600-h\/Gordon,+Mekah.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rx5Ms90SYMI\/AAAAAAAADxs\/4pwB1nRWQ_8\/s200\/Gordon,+Mekah.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5124617761386029250\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>An activist for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community who had been running for a state Senate seat in Santa Fe has decided to instead seek the House seat currently held by <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=303&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Wirth<\/a>, D-Santa Fe, because Wirth has decided to run for the <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002SenateDistricts\/Senate25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 25<\/a> Senate seat.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Several weeks ago, Democrats <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianegolf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Egolf<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/09\/activist-to-run-against-sen-grubesic-in.html\">Mekah Gordon<\/a> were challenging Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=304&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">John Grubesic<\/a>, D-Santa Fe, for the seat. But when Grubesic decided against running again, Wirth decided to run for his <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002HouseDistricts\/House47.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 47<\/a> seat. Egolf recently decided to instead seek Wirth\u2019s House seat, and now Gordon has joined him in switching races.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cPeter Wirth and Brian Egolf are two very fine, well accomplished candidates,\u201d she wrote Monday in an e-mail to supporters. \u201cThat being said, I am the right choice, and most formidable candidate, for your next state congressional representative of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. \u2026 I will reestablish honesty and truth in a political arena seemingly void of such characteristics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Wirth\u2019s decision came in part because U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udallforusall.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> decided he would not seek the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a>. That would have created an opening in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> for Wirth to seek, but Udall\u2019s decision, coupled with Grubesic\u2019s announcement, made the open state Senate seat Wirth\u2019s best opportunity to move up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An activist for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community who had been running for a state Senate seat in Santa Fe has decided to instead seek the House seat currently held by Peter Wirth, D-Santa Fe, because Wirth has decided to run for the District 25 Senate seat.
