{"id":2394,"date":"2007-10-17T11:32:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-17T17:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/lyons-decides-against-running-for-senate\/"},"modified":"2007-10-17T11:32:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-17T17:32:00","slug":"lyons-decides-against-running-for-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/lyons-decides-against-running-for-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"Lyons decides against running for Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rwur2Ss9LuI\/AAAAAAAADns\/_PqJX84_pws\/s1600-h\/Lyons,+Pat.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rwur2Ss9LuI\/AAAAAAAADns\/_PqJX84_pws\/s200\/Lyons,+Pat.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5119374350658383586\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">State Land Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmstatelands.org\/default.aspx?PageID=2\" target=\"_blank\">Pat Lyons<\/a> has decided against seeking the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a>, but he hasn\u2019t ruled out a 2010 gubernatorial run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019ve decided it would be best if I just keep doing to the job I\u2019m doing,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Lyons<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said today. \u201cPeople elected me for four years to do this job, and I\u2019m just going to keep on doing what I\u2019m doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He said the fact that he would have faced U.S. Reps. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pearceforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> in a Republican primary was a factor, but so was the fact that his daughter is still in grade school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe feel like we need to stay in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> a little longer,\u201d he said of his daughter\u2019s schooling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The other Republican who has entered the Senate race is newcomer <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/oil-man-to-challenge-wilson-in-primary.html\">Spiro G. Vassilopoulos<\/a>. The Democrats who are running for Senate are Albuquerque Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chavezforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Ch\u00e1vez<\/a> and political newcomers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Don Wiviott<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimhannan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Hannan<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothermedia.org\/2008platform.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Leland Lehrman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Lt. Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dianedenish.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Denish<\/a> is also considering the Senate race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Lyons<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said he\u2019s still thinking about the gubernatorial race.
