{"id":2383,"date":"2007-10-15T22:19:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-16T04:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/former-lea-county-commissioner-to-run-for-congress\/"},"modified":"2007-10-15T22:19:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-16T04:19:00","slug":"former-lea-county-commissioner-to-run-for-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/former-lea-county-commissioner-to-run-for-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Lea County commissioner to run for Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RxQ78ys9MZI\/AAAAAAAADsw\/DOmZ68LLFU8\/s1600-h\/Teague,+Harry.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RxQ78ys9MZI\/AAAAAAAADsw\/DOmZ68LLFU8\/s200\/Teague,+Harry.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5121784591815618962\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Former<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Lea<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> Commissioner Harry Teague, a conservative Democrat, informed party officials today that he is running for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pearceforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, R-N.M.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He joins two other Democrats in the race \u2013 Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kisslingforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Al Kissling<\/a>, both from <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It was too late to reach Teague, the owner of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmprc.state.nm.us\/cgi-bin\/prcdtl.cgi?0470856+EUNICE+WELL+SERVICING+CO\" target=\"_blank\">Eunice Well Servicing Co.<\/a>, when I learned of his candidacy tonight, but Stephanie DuBois, the state Democratic Party\u2019s Second Congressional District vice chair, confirmed that he called today to inform her that he\u2019s running.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague is currently the chair of a state transportation needs task force convened by Lt. Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ltgovernor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Denish<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The timing of his entrance in to the race is interesting. Teague is an associate of Pearce, a fellow <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Hobbs<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> oilman who is considering giving up his House seat to run for the Senate seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a> next year. Pearce has formed a finance committee, but opinions are mixed on whether he\u2019s leaning toward or against running for Senate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I can\u2019t help but wonder whether Teague knows something that Pearce hasn\u2019t announced publicly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Though Teague has given money primarily to Democratic candidates over the years, he gave $1,000 to Pearce in 2004 and $2,100 to Pearce in 2006, which is certain to raise eyebrows in the Democratic Party. In 2004, Teague also gave $2,000 to one of Pearce\u2019s Democratic opponents, Jeff Steinborn, who didn\u2019t make it past the primary, and in 2006 he gave $250 to Kissling, Pearce\u2019s only Democratic opponent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In June, he gave $2,300 \u2013 the maximum allowed \u2013 to McCamley\u2019s congressional campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ll have more on this on Tuesday, including, I hope, an interview with Teague.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Lea County Commissioner Harry Teague, a conservative Democrat, informed party officials today that he is running for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep.
