{"id":2378,"date":"2007-10-15T09:45:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-15T15:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/egolf-drops-senate-bid-will-seek-wirths-house-seat\/"},"modified":"2007-10-15T09:45:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-15T15:45:00","slug":"egolf-drops-senate-bid-will-seek-wirths-house-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/egolf-drops-senate-bid-will-seek-wirths-house-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Egolf drops Senate bid, will seek Wirth&#8217;s House seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RxOLhCs9MSI\/AAAAAAAADr8\/DrYREfqIhkU\/s1600-h\/Egolf,+Brian.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RxOLhCs9MSI\/AAAAAAAADr8\/DrYREfqIhkU\/s200\/Egolf,+Brian.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5121590601027760418\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianegolf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Egolf<\/a> has decided that he will run for the state House seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=303&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Wirth<\/a>, D-Santa Fe, rather than running against Wirth in a Senate primary next year.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Egolf had been in the Senate <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002SenateDistricts\/Senate25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 25<\/a> race for months, and, having already raised $85,000, became the frontrunner when Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=304&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">John Grubesic<\/a> recently announced he would not seek re-election. But with the state Senate seat coming open and U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udallforusall.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> announcing he would not seek the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a> and create an opening in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> for Wirth to seek, the representative instead opted last week to run for the seat Grubesic is vacating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That prompted Egolf to swap races with Wirth and run for the open <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002HouseDistricts\/House47.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 47<\/a> House seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cAfter careful consideration, I have decided to run for the District 47 State House seat being vacated by Peter Wirth,\u201d Egolf said. \u201cI am committed to doing what is best for <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city>, and I believe that <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> will be best served by having two strong, progressive Democrats serving together in the legislature, not running against each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOver the past eight months, I have walked door-to-door in many neighborhoods of <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city> and Eldorado and have had personal conversations with hundreds of voters about the future of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is to represent the concerns of these voters that I remain entirely committed to making sure that <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state>\u2019s children are able to raise their families in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New   Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and to addressing our urgent needs in education, water and health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Egolf is currently the only candidate in the House race.
