(Photo by Heath Haussamen)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There\u2019s lots of talk about whether U.S. Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/bingaman.senate.gov\">Jeff Bingaman<\/a>, D-N.M., is going to seek another term in 2012, but his spokeswoman says he\u2019s not likely to make an announcement until late winter \u2013 probably in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what we fully expect him to do,\u201d Bingaman spokeswoman Jude McCartin said today. She noted that Bingaman has typically made re-election announcements around that time in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Politico reported today that Bingaman is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/1110\/45320.html\">\u201cweighing retirement,\u201d<\/a> but it didn\u2019t cite a source or quote Bingaman or anyone close to the senator. Others have speculated that Bingaman will seek another term.<\/p>\n<p>McCartin pointed out that Bingaman held a campaign fundraiser last month and raised about $400,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s raising money, and that\u2019s often used as an indicator,\u201d McCartin said, adding that she wasn\u2019t hinting that Bingaman has decided to seek re-election. Others are speculating, McCartin said, while Bingaman is \u201cjust going about being the senator\u201d and doing his work.<\/p>\n<p>If he does run again, defeating Bingaman is likely to be high on the priority list for Republicans, who are energized by recent gains in New Mexico. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrsc.org\/\">National Republican Senatorial Committee<\/a> has been sending out news releases attacking Bingaman in recent weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s lots of talk about whether U.S. Sen.
