{"id":2355,"date":"2007-10-09T18:11:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-10T00:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/source-pearce-decision-wont-come-tonight\/"},"modified":"2007-10-09T18:11:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-10T00:11:00","slug":"source-pearce-decision-wont-come-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/source-pearce-decision-wont-come-tonight\/","title":{"rendered":"Source: Pearce decision won&#8217;t come tonight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RwwaFys9LzI\/AAAAAAAADoU\/TpuBFc018sU\/s1600-h\/Pearce,+Steve.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RwwaFys9LzI\/AAAAAAAADoU\/TpuBFc018sU\/s200\/Pearce,+Steve.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5119495563225411378\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pearceforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, R-N.M., won\u2019t announce today whether he\u2019s running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a>, but he\u2019s definitely trying to put together the money a Senate run would require.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Though Pearce and his staffers began today\u2019s meetings with a plan to make a decision and announcement <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/pearce-to-announce-decision-on-senate.html\">by this evening<\/a>, it will not happen, a reliable source confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Apparently, there is more work to be done before Pearce makes the final decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The source gave no indication of whether Pearce is leaning toward getting in or staying out of the Senate race. However, that source and several others confirmed that Pearce has been calling Republican donors around the state for the last three days trying to determine whether he can raise the money for a Senate run. Pearce was in <st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:state> today, and the meetings were conference calls since most of his campaign staffers are in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A source close to U.S. Rep <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>, R-N.M., who has already entered the race, said the congresswoman plans to spend $8 million or more on a Senate primary and general election. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> announced Monday that, as of the end of September, she had $750,000 in the bank that can be used for her Senate run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> is currently considered the frontrunner for the GOP nomination in the Senate race, but if Pearce gets in, that could change. Newcomer <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/oil-man-to-challenge-wilson-in-primary.html\">Spiro G. Vassilopoulos<\/a> is also running, assuring a GOP primary regardless of Pearce\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surveyusa.com\/client\/PollReportEmail.aspx?g=0c284bce-cac2-4c56-88c2-3f35c6b617bf\" target=\"_blank\">SurveyUSA poll<\/a> conducted this weekend for <a href=\"http:\/\/kob.com\/article\/stories\/S219516.shtml?cat=500\" target=\"_blank\">KOB-TV<\/a> in <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> found that Pearce is significantly stronger statewide than <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> in potential head-to-head contests against Democratic opponents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">State Land Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmstatelands.org\/default.aspx?PageID=2\" target=\"_blank\">Pat Lyons<\/a> is another Republican actively considering the race.
