Valentine is retiring on Jan. 1, and Gov.-elect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martineztransition.com\">Susana Martinez<\/a> will get to appoint his replacement.<\/p>\n<p>The retirement of Valentine, the presiding judge at the Third Judicial District Court in Las Cruces, was announced today in a notice of vacancy issued by the Judicial Nominating Commission. Valentine is a Democrat.<\/p>\n<p>Those wanting to apply for the vacancy can obtain an application <a href=\"http:\/\/lawschool.unm.edu\/judsel\/application.php\">here<\/a>. Applications are due by Dec. 6 at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>A bipartisan commission will meet at the district courthouse in Las Cruces on Jan. 13 to evaluate applicants and forward recommendations to then-Gov.
