{"id":23419,"date":"2010-11-12T11:12:26","date_gmt":"2010-11-12T18:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=23419"},"modified":"2010-11-17T09:33:33","modified_gmt":"2010-11-17T16:33:33","slug":"%e2%80%98questionable-transactions%e2%80%99-lead-to-audit-of-corrections-department","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/11\/%e2%80%98questionable-transactions%e2%80%99-lead-to-audit-of-corrections-department\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Questionable transactions\u2019 lead to audit of Corrections Department"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_8844\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 250px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8844\" title=\"Balderas, Hector\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Balderas-Hector.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"234\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hector Balderas<\/p><\/div>\n<p>State Auditor <a href=\"http:\/\/saonm.org\/\">Hector Balderas<\/a> is conducting a special audit of the <a href=\"http:\/\/corrections.state.nm.us\/\">New Mexico Corrections Department<\/a> after a tip led to discovery of \u201cpotential abuse of the procurement process by certain vendors who were awarded large\u00a0government contracts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s according to a news release Balderas\u2019 office sent out today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter analyzing information on this case over recent months, I have determined that taxpayer dollars are at risk and an immediate special audit is warranted,\u201d Balderas said. \u201cUnlawful profiteering on the backs of\u00a0New Mexico\u2019s taxpayers will not be tolerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The release said the \u201cpotential waste and abuse\u201d happened between 2007 and 2010 but didn\u2019t name specific vendors or contracts.
