{"id":2340,"date":"2007-10-07T10:14:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-07T16:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/arnold-jones-may-run-for-congress\/"},"modified":"2007-10-07T10:14:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-07T16:14:00","slug":"arnold-jones-may-run-for-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/arnold-jones-may-run-for-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"Arnold-Jones may run for Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RwkGGCs9LkI\/AAAAAAAADmc\/jjAHKD3nhr4\/s1600-h\/Arnold-Jones,+Janice.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RwkGGCs9LkI\/AAAAAAAADmc\/jjAHKD3nhr4\/s200\/Arnold-Jones,+Janice.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118629152357690946\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>State Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=180&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Janice Arnold-Jones<\/a>, R-Albuquerque, is considering running for the seat in the U.S. House being vacated next year by Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>, who is running for Senate instead of seeking re-election.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Arnold-Jones confirmed on Saturday that she may get into the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am really considering this,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Arnold-Jones said she will be on the phone this week to determine how much cash she can raise, but she doesn\u2019t think money is the only factor in building support for a run. In the mostly metropolitan First Congressional District, door-to-door campaigning is much more doable than it is in the state\u2019s other congressional districts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">If she decides to get into the race, Arnold-Jones may have to battle other Republicans in a primary. Those considering the race on the GOP side include Bernalillo County Sheriff <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bernco.gov\/live\/departments.asp?dept=2318\" target=\"_blank\">Darren White<\/a>, who is flying to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> this week to meet with national GOP officials and may make a decision in the coming days on whether to run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Arnold-Jones is the sort of moderate Republican voters in the district have historically liked to send to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. However, in a primary, the more conservative candidate would have an edge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There are a number of influential Republicans who want to clear the primary field for White so he doesn\u2019t have to expend resources on a primary. Arnold-Jones would be bucking them if she decides to run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On the Democratic side, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinheinrich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonadamsforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jon Adams<\/a> are already running, and a number of others \u2013 including Arnold-Jones\u2019 colleague, state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=215&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Al Park<\/a> \u2013 are considering entering the race.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Rep.
