Grubesic won&#8217;t seek re-election in 2008"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rwaspis9LfI\/AAAAAAAADl0\/_FoPISr1Ijs\/s1600-h\/Grubesic,+John.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rwaspis9LfI\/AAAAAAAADl0\/_FoPISr1Ijs\/s200\/Grubesic,+John.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5117967856243125746\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>State Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=304&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">John Grubesic<\/a>, D-Santa Fe, announced today that he won\u2019t seek re-election next year, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freenewmexican.com\/News\/Grubesic_won_t_run_for_re_election_in_2008\" target=\"_blank\">Santa Fe New Mexican<\/a> is reporting.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That leaves lawyer and Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianegolf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Egolf<\/a>, who has already raised $85,000, as the frontrunner in the race for the <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002SenateDistricts\/Senate25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 25<\/a> seat. Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/09\/activist-to-run-against-sen-grubesic-in.html\">Mekah Gordon<\/a> has also announced that she\u2019s running.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Grubesic told the newspaper his decision is based primarily on financial reasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cBeing in the Legislature has a significant impact on my ability to make a living and support my family,\u201d he told the newspaper. \u201cI\u2019m a trial lawyer and it\u2019s hard to tell a client I\u2019ll be gone for 60 days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As reported by the newspaper, Grubesic had a rocky term that involved two incidents with police, one of which led him to later apologize and seek therapy for alcoholism. He has also criticized the governor, calling him \u201cthe flabby king\u201d in an opinion piece published by the newspaper last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Grubesic listed passage of a bill this year limiting gifts to public officials as one of his proudest accomplishments. It was one of three ethics bills that passed the Senate during the regular and special sessions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Sen.
