A number of Democrats and Republicans from around the state are considering getting into the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Hill cited \u201ca source familiar with <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s decision\u201d in its report. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s spokesman told me he had no comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The big question now is whether <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> will face the state\u2019s other GOP representative in the U.S. House, <a href=\"http:\/\/pearce.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, in a primary. Pearce\u2019s office has not responded to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s decision also throws next year\u2019s First Congressional District race into disarray by making it an open seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is Domenici\u2019s prot\u00e9g\u00e9, so the news comes as no surprise. The moderate Republican is a veteran campaigner who has survived tough challenges to win election several times in a Democratic district. She beat former Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patricia_Madrid\" target=\"_blank\">Patricia Madrid<\/a> last year by 861 votes out of more than 211,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Since that victory, <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> has come under attack for her role in the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/U.S.%20attorney\">U.S. attorney scandal<\/a>, and it\u2019s unclear how that might affect her strength. Like Domenici, she\u2019s accused by former U.S. Attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Iglesias_%28attorney%29\" target=\"_blank\">David Iglesias<\/a> of pressuring him in October 2006 to speed indictments in a public corruption probe involving high-ranking Democrats to influence voters in the November 2006 election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 6:05 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/thecrypt\/1007\/Heather_Wilson_to_make_announcement_at_campaign_office_tomorrow.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Politico<\/a> is reporting that <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:City> has sent an e-mail to campaign supporters asking them to appear at her <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:City><\/st1:place> campaign office at 1:30 p.m. Friday for an announcement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmdemocrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Party of New Mexico<\/a> put out a news release today calling <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>\u2019s apparent Senate run a futile attempt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cNew Mexicans know that their leaders can do better, which is why they will elect a Democrat to the U.S. Senate next year,\u201d party Chairman Brian Col\u00f3n said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Rep.
