{"id":2315,"date":"2007-10-03T19:39:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-04T01:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/richardson-chavez-praise-domenici\/"},"modified":"2007-10-03T19:39:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-04T01:39:00","slug":"richardson-chavez-praise-domenici","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/10\/richardson-chavez-praise-domenici\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson, Ch\u00e1vez praise Domenici"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RwREVis9LGI\/AAAAAAAADis\/Qzn3xnfvXvA\/s1600-h\/Richardson,+Bill.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RwREVis9LGI\/AAAAAAAADis\/Qzn3xnfvXvA\/s200\/Richardson,+Bill.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5117290213483031650\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>New Mexico Democrats are releasing primarily cordial statements in response to the news that U.S. Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a> is retiring, and Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> and Albuquerque Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/mayor\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Ch\u00e1vez<\/a> are no exception.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cFor more than three decades, Senator Domenici has been a respected and powerful champion for <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state>\u2019s interests in the U.S. Senate,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in a news release. \u201cAs Senator Domenici nears the end of a remarkable career, his departure will close a important chapter in our state\u2019s history and leave a legacy of dedicated public service.\u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RwREZys9LHI\/AAAAAAAADi0\/jaLwDecp3WE\/s1600-h\/Chavez,+Martin.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RwREZys9LHI\/AAAAAAAADi0\/jaLwDecp3WE\/s200\/Chavez,+Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5117290286497475698\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>In a news release, Ch\u00e1vez agreed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSenator Pete V. Domenici will leave office with a tremendous legacy of public service to our state,\u201d he said. \u201cWe join with other New Mexicans in thanking the senator for his leadership and vision for <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. For generations to come, our state will remember and honor his hard work and tireless dedication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Both are Democrats others will be watching closely in the coming days for clues about whether they\u2019ll run for Domenici\u2019s seat. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has said he isn\u2019t interested, but that was before news of Domenici\u2019s retirement broke. Ch\u00e1vez has said in the past that he is interested in the race but would not run against Domenici.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ch\u00e1vez could not immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 7:45 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pahl Shipley, spokesman for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>\u2019s presidential campaign, had this to say when asked if the governor was interested in the Senate race now that there is no incumbent to challenge:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cNot interested,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Mexico Democrats are releasing primarily cordial statements in response to the news that U.S. Sen.
