Grubesic in June primary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RvvhGkNxxqI\/AAAAAAAADgE\/kjrWV2olzcY\/s1600-h\/Gordon,+Mekah.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RvvhGkNxxqI\/AAAAAAAADgE\/kjrWV2olzcY\/s200\/Gordon,+Mekah.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5114929304726259362\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>An activist for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community has announced her candidacy for the New Mexico Senate seat currently held by Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=304&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">John Grubesic<\/a> of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Mekah Gordon, a Democrat, will be running against the senator in the June 2008 primary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gordon wrote in a recent e-mail to supporters that, as the <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002SenateDistricts\/Senate25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 25<\/a> senator, she wants to work toward the establishment of a \u201charassment free, diverse and humanistic educational school system\u201d and will also push for visual and performing arts education in all schools, civil rights and equality, low- and middle-income tax breaks and better health care for the elderly and veterans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI have consistently maintained a well documented platform of sensitivity, diversity understanding, civil rights, compassion and mutual respect,\u201d she wrote. \u201cBelieving in and supporting my candidacy for <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> state senator will reestablish honesty and truth in a political arena seemingly void of such characteristics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gordon is an artist who designs and crafts jewelry and is also a photographer and sculptor. She said she grew up in <st1:city st=\"on\">New  York City<\/st1:city> and has lived in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa   Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> for seven years, moving here after retiring from teaching.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She\u2019s the <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city> regional editor for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zianet.com\/tnh\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Normal Heart<\/a>, a Las Cruces-based LGBT newspaper distributed in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> and <st1:place st=\"on\">West Texas<\/st1:place>, and is an activist for the LGBT community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An activist for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community has announced her candidacy for the New Mexico Senate seat currently held by Democrat John Grubesic of Santa Fe.
