\"\"<\/a>Following a day of interviews in Santa Fe<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>, three judges and four lawyers made the cut and will be considered by Gov. Bill Richardson<\/a> for a vacancy on the New Mexico Supreme Court<\/a>. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Robert E. Robles, chief judge of the Third Judicial District Court<\/a> in Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> Ana<\/st1:placename> County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>, was among those the committee voted to recommend to the governor this evening.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The others the commission recommended are:<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u2022 Albuquerque<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> criminal defense attorney Charles W. Daniels<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u2022 New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> General Services Secretary Arturo L. Jaramillo<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u2022 Albuquerque<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> lawyer Edward R. Ricco, who specializes in appellate law<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u2022 Maureen A. Sanders, an Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> attorney who used to run the civil division in the state attorney general\u2019s office<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u2022 Judge Linda M. Vanzi of the Second Judicial District Court in Bernalillo<\/st1:placename> County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place><\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u2022 State Court of Appeals Judge Michael E. Vigil<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The governor is tasked with making an appointment from among the names recommended by the commission. If he doesn\u2019t like his options, he can ask the commission to reconvene \u2013 once \u2013 to consider whether to forward the names of any of the other eight applicants for his consideration.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The vacancy was created last month by the death of Justice Pamela B. Minzner<\/a>. Robles, 57, would be the first person from Southern New Mexico<\/st1:place> appointed to the high court since 1975.<\/p>\n

Robles had this to say:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt truly is an honor to have been selected by a blue-ribbon commission to have my name sent to the governor, and as being one of the few that are qualified to serve on the Supreme Court,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m hoping the governor is going to do something that hasn\u2019t been done in 32 years, and that\u2019s appoint someone to the Supreme Court bench from south of Albuquerque.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
