Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ltgovernor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Denish<\/a> plans to hold a meeting in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Mesquite<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> on Tuesday to learn more about concerns in the south county\u2019s rural areas.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2006\/08\/rural-south-county-communities.html\">wrote last year<\/a> about leaders emerging in the rural communities in the south county who are helping make the area more politically active. Getting the acting governor to come to their community and listen to their concerns is a huge step.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Mesquite<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> volunteer fire station, <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;q=1+Firehouse+Rd,+Mesquite,+Dona+Ana,+New+Mexico+88048,+United+States&amp;sll=32.16922,-106.68254&amp;sspn=0.010535,0.014784&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.16891,-106.681988&amp;spn=0.010535,0.014784&amp;z=16&amp;iwloc=addr&amp;om=1\" target=\"_blank\">1 Fire House Road<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A news release from Denish\u2019s office said issues to be discussed will include recent problems with the Helena Chemical plant and a surface-water treatment facility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe see the need for funding for things like economic development planning that includes the existing communities residents\u2019 input,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Mesquite<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> organizer Arturo Uribe said in the release. \u201cThe outreach is not done, and we as a community are the last to know. We see a need to preserve our community\u2019s history and culture. Instead, churches are torn down and businesses want to come in without community culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The lieutenant governor intends to hear the group\u2019s concerns and learn more about them to determine whether her office can play a role, the news release stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lt.
