{"id":2243,"date":"2007-09-14T16:27:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-14T22:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/09\/former-prc-candidate-to-run-for-county-commission\/"},"modified":"2007-09-14T16:27:00","modified_gmt":"2007-09-14T22:27:00","slug":"former-prc-candidate-to-run-for-county-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/09\/former-prc-candidate-to-run-for-county-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"Former PRC candidate to run for county commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Republican Doyle Pruitt has announced his candidacy for the District 4 seat on the Do\u00f1a Ana County Board of Commissioners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The seat is currently held by Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/commissioners\/district4\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kent Evans<\/a>, who will leave the commission next year because of term limits. Evans\u2019 wife Anna Mae, also a Republican, has already announced that she\u2019s running for the seat next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pruitt said he\u2019s running \u201cto level the playing field and give better representation to the constituents of District 4 than has been given in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSomeone is needed to look out for the safety issues of the county, which have been sorely overlooked in the past,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are a flood-prone area, which is due to the lack of infrastructure mandated to the builders. We should have had drainage canals like Albuquerque, Los Angels and other cities that have had similar problems in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Nine months before the June primary, Pruitt\u2019s announcement means there are already three interesting races in the primary season in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>. In addition to the race between Pruitt and Anna Mae Evans on the GOP side, on the Democratic side Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=261\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Jane Garcia<\/a> is being challenged by Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/commissioners\/district1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar V\u00e1squez Butler<\/a> and Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=316&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Joni Gutierrez<\/a> is being challenged by Mesilla Mayor Pro Tem <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mesilla-nm.org\/html\/jesus_m__caro_mayor_pro_tem.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jesus Caro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pruitt and Kent Evans have a history. Both ran unsuccessfully last year in the Republican Public Regulation Commission District 5 primary that was won by Earl Greer. Many local Republicans said Pruitt garnered just enough support in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> to give the victory to Greer, who is from Truth or Consequences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pruitt said if elected to the commission he would work for \u201cmore planning\u201d between the City of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and the county on the issue of flood control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cGood planning means less loss of life, dollars and property by the residents of the county and the city,\u201d he said. \u201cAll of the people are in the same boat when it comes to this problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pruitt has a bachelor\u2019s degree in structural engineering, and said he thinks the county needs people like him \u201cwho will look at the problems from a logistical and sane perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pruitt has lived in the county for eight years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Doyle Pruitt has announced his candidacy for the District 4 seat on the Do\u00f1a Ana County Board of Commissioners.
