\"\"<\/a>A new television ad from a group that wants to end the Iraq<\/st1:country-region> war is challenging U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici<\/a> of New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> and three other GOP incumbents up for re-election next year. <\/p>\n

Sponsored by Americans Against Escalation in Iraq<\/a>, a coalition of national anti-war groups, the ad will cost about $500,000 to run in the districts of the four senators and on national cable for 10 days, the Associated Press<\/a> is reporting.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The ad is the newest assault against a senator whose popularity has dropped in recent months because of his involvement in the U.S.<\/st1:country-region> attorney scandal and his position on the Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> war, but Domenici has yet to draw a top-tier challenger in 2008, when he is up for re-election.<\/p>\n

Three lesser-known Democrats are vying for the right to challenge him.<\/p>\n

Domenici has broken with Bush on Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> policy \u2013 saying he wants a withdrawal of American troops to begin in the spring \u2013 but he doesn\u2019t support Democratic proposals to bring troops home now or cut funding for the war.<\/p>\n

A Domenici-specific ad is scheduled to run in the Albuquerque<\/st1:city> market, while an ad attacking \u201cRepublican senators\u201d will run on national cable channels that can be viewed in Las Cruces<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n

The ad shows children in fatigues and asks how long Republicans will keep the United States<\/st1:country-region> \u201cstuck in Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>,\u201d asking if we should \u201cstart training our children now.\u201d<\/p>\n
