Or, we can rise to the occasion and embrace the opportunities of our growing city: investing in existing neighborhoods, carefully planning new ones and building a healthy community that all of us can share.\u201d<span style=\"\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Small, 25, is a member of the Do\u00f1a Ana County Planning and Zoning Commission and is active in several community groups. He is employed in the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> office of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmwild.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Mexico Wilderness Alliance<\/a>. An avid outdoorsman, he also helps care for and train horses at Shining Heart Farms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Small said a shared sense of community is important to him, and said that begins with open government and public participation in city decision-making. Solid infrastructure, safe neighborhoods, high-performance schools and a balanced approach to growth and development are central, he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m a native New Mexican and love our natural lands and people.
