{"id":2189,"date":"2007-09-05T07:56:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-05T13:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/09\/montano-announces-run-for-city-council\/"},"modified":"2007-09-05T07:56:00","modified_gmt":"2007-09-05T13:56:00","slug":"montano-announces-run-for-city-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/09\/montano-announces-run-for-city-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Monta\u00f1o announces run for city council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rt61vYBJ63I\/AAAAAAAADRo\/xS-n5nWsyOE\/s1600-h\/Montano,+Steven.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rt61vYBJ63I\/AAAAAAAADRo\/xS-n5nWsyOE\/s200\/Montano,+Steven.JPG\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5106718852990495602\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Steven Monta\u00f1o has officially announced his bid to replace District 4 representative <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/district4.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Trowbridge<\/a> on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces City Council<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Montano, who currently works as the <st1:place st=\"on\">Southern  New Mexico<\/st1:place> senior business development consultant for the state\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edd.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Economic Development Department<\/a>, is a native Las Crucen who pledged, in a news release, to bring \u201cfair and honest government\u201d to the city if elected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI have always been a strong proponent of respectful work ethics, volunteerism and improving the quality of life in my community for family and neighbors alike, and I will take that code with me to the Las Cruces City Council,\u201d he said in the release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Trowbridge isn\u2019t seeking another term on Nov. 6. Local businessman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isaacechavez.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Isaac Chavez<\/a> has also announced his campaign for the council seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Monta\u00f1o is a graduate of <st1:placename st=\"on\">Mayfield<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">High School<\/st1:placetype> and <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>, where he earned a bachelor\u2019s in business management and accounting. He is a military veteran who served during Operation Desert Storm, and has worked in business and finance at the state and federal levels. In his current job, Monta\u00f1o said he has helped bring many businesses and high-paying jobs to <st1:place st=\"on\">Southern  New Mexico<\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI believe in hard work, loyalty, dedication and fairness,\u201d Monta\u00f1o said. \u201cThose have been the key elements in conducting my personal and professional life, and will serve me well as I move into another area of public service. Too often, politics takes the front seat in city government, and constituencies suffer as a result.
