Domenici has broken with Bush on <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> policy \u2013 saying he wants a withdrawal of American troops to begin in the spring \u2013 but he doesn\u2019t support Democratic proposals to bring troops home now or cut funding for the war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RtM6yYBJ6gI\/AAAAAAAADO0\/3zLfRYUJOQw\/s1600-h\/Domenici,+Pete.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RtM6yYBJ6gI\/AAAAAAAADO0\/3zLfRYUJOQw\/s200\/Domenici,+Pete.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5103487439856069122\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>\u201cInstead of standing up to George Bush, Pete Domenici has continued to vote with him 100 percent in support of the war, and it is no surprise the president is now rewarding him with a million-dollar fundraiser,\u201d Wiviott said in a news release. \u201cSaying one thing and doing another is apparently a hard habit to break in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:city>,  <st1:state st=\"on\">D.C.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> I\u2019m running to change all that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There is no immediate word on how much Domenici raised at the fundraiser, held this afternoon at the home of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque Mayor Larry Abraham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RtM61oBJ6hI\/AAAAAAAADO8\/iL8lCPmZxAU\/s1600-h\/Wiviott,+Don.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RtM61oBJ6hI\/AAAAAAAADO8\/iL8lCPmZxAU\/s200\/Wiviott,+Don.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5103487495690643986\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Bush\u2019s visit to <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> for the fundraiser comes as the president is preparing to nominate a new attorney general to replace <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/government\/gonzales-bio.html\" target=\"_blank\">Alberto Gonzales<\/a>, whose resignation is the eighth at the Department of Justice following the <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> attorney scandal. That controversy has also caused a drop in Domenici\u2019s support and made him a target of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> Democratic groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Iglesias_%28attorney%29\" target=\"_blank\">David Iglesias<\/a>, former <st1:country-region st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:country-region> attorney for <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>, alleges that Domenici and U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> tried to pressure him to issue indictments in a public-corruption probe last year in time to sway voters in the November election. Iglesias says he refused. Two months later, he was fired without being given reason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Domenici and Wilson admit to calling Iglesias but say they didn\u2019t pressure him. Both are subjects of preliminary inquiries that could result in ethics investigations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Domenici\u2019s approval rating since the scandal broke has fallen as low at 51 percent.
