District 4 includes much of the city\u2019s west side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"\">            <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cNow that the secret is out about how amazing and safe Las Cruces is, our district needs a leader with the energy and vision to see to it that our wonderful city reaps as many of the economic benefits as possible,\u201d Chavez said. \u201cI believe that life in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> can be better for everyone. I want to help this community and its residents build a brighter future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s essential that the citizens of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> be included in their city government\u2019s decision making as much as possible,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to do my part to make that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Chavez has a bachelor\u2019s in government from <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>. He served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserves, is a member of a number of community boards and chairs the Citizens Review Board for Child Abuse and Neglect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Chavez and his wife, Ellie, have one baby son, Octavian, and four dogs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Chavez unsuccessfully challenged state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=213&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Nu\u00f1ez<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Isaac Chavez formally has formally announced that he\u2019s running for the District 4 seat on the Las Cruces City Council being vacated by Steve Trowbridge.
