{"id":2112,"date":"2007-08-16T15:31:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-16T21:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/08\/richardson-unveils-economic-plan\/"},"modified":"2007-08-16T15:31:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-16T21:31:00","slug":"richardson-unveils-economic-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/08\/richardson-unveils-economic-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson unveils economic plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RsTCWoBJ5tI\/AAAAAAAADIg\/hy5VvPZ3qCY\/s1600-h\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RsTCWoBJ5tI\/AAAAAAAADIg\/hy5VvPZ3qCY\/s200\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5099414372045416146\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardsonforpresident.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> announced the economic plan he would seek to enact if elected president, a radical shift that would change the way <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> does business.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The most radical proposals would be a constitutional amendment that requires a balanced federal budget and the end of congressional earmarks \u2013 money set aside for projects in lawmakers\u2019 districts that are often slipped into unrelated, controversial bills to secure votes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Earmarks and unlimited spending are at the core of the nation\u2019s political system, so these proposals would be hard to sell in the nation\u2019s capitol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> claims ending the earmark program will save at least $40 billion over five years. He also wants to cut \u201ccorporate welfare,\u201d which he said would have saved $92 billion in 2006.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The governor unveiled the plan during a speech today in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and said the drastic steps are necessary to overcome the problems of the Bush Administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cFrankly, the president is acting like a spoiled teenager who crashes the family car and then hopes no one will notice,\u201d the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/latest\/ci_6640831\" target=\"_blank\">Associated Press<\/a> quoted Richardson as saying. \u201cWell, <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Mr.<\/st1:city>  <st1:state st=\"on\">President<\/st1:state>, <st1:country-region st=\"on\">America<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> has noticed.
