The move comes as he and Richardson are fighting for third place in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> is gaining on him for second place in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Edwards is consistently in third in national polls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RsM2lkuF4pI\/AAAAAAAADHw\/uU7izGSgE-I\/s1600-h\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RsM2lkuF4pI\/AAAAAAAADHw\/uU7izGSgE-I\/s200\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098979222253593234\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The most recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/news\/8154117.html\" target=\"_blank\">Nevada poll<\/a>, conducted in late June, had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> at 39 percent, Obama at 17 percent, Edwards at 12 percent and Richardson at 7 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The move is certainly about shoring up support in the other early primary states. But it\u2019s also likely about the shifting primary calendar. <st1:state st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:state> is currently ahead of <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Hampshire<\/st1:state>, but that\u2019s likely to change, and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">South Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> might also move ahead of the only Western state to hold an early primary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Richardson, on the other hand, is betting his entire campaign on finishing at least third in Iowa, which he believes will propel him to an impressive showing in New Hampshire, a win in Nevada and wins in other Western states \u2013 including California, New Mexico and Arizona \u2013 that plan to hold their primary contests on Feb. 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> recently moved ahead of Edwards in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanresearchgroup.com\/pres08\/azdem8-702.html\" target=\"_blank\">Arizona poll<\/a>, further suggesting that the West isn\u2019t Edwards\u2019 best bet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Edwards\u2019 strategy appears to be based on impressive showings in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state>, <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">South Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> that will propel him to victory in Southern, Eastern and Midwestern states on Feb. 5. <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> isn\u2019t putting much time or money into <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">South Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Both are putting most of their resources into <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> as they seek to gain on the better-funded <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and Obama campaigns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Edwards\u2019 move is significant for Richardson, who appears to have helped knock a frontrunner out of the West. On the flip side, Edwards\u2019 increased attention on <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> could mean he moves ahead of <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> and <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> and keeps Obama and Richardson from gaining any more ground in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state>, which could make any gains by <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> in the West irrelevant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>, like the other candidates, is in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> this week begging for votes at the state fair and participating in a candidate debate on Sunday morning. One was first shown during a debate held last month, and the other is taken from a video on the governor\u2019s campaign Web site, but both are new to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> voters.
