{"id":2099,"date":"2007-08-14T16:37:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-14T22:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/08\/congressional-hopeful-raises-10k-in-first-week\/"},"modified":"2007-08-14T16:37:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-14T22:37:00","slug":"congressional-hopeful-raises-10k-in-first-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/08\/congressional-hopeful-raises-10k-in-first-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressional hopeful raises $10K in first week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RsIu7UuF4kI\/AAAAAAAADHI\/VGRNXc1hcmI\/s1600-h\/Adams,+Jon.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RsIu7UuF4kI\/AAAAAAAADHI\/VGRNXc1hcmI\/s200\/Adams,+Jon.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098689324846015042\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinheinrich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a> has raised a lot of money and secured some high-profile endorsements in his bid for the right to take on GOP U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> next year, but that doesn\u2019t mean he\u2019ll sail through the primary season unscathed.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonadamsforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jon Adams<\/a>, another Democrat who wants to take on <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> next year, secured $10,000 in his first week of fundraising, according to Albuquerque Tribune reporter <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.scripps.com\/albq\/state\/2007\/08\/cd_1_challenger_raises_10000_i.html\" target=\"_blank\">Kate Nash\u2019s blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Adams<\/st1:place> has a long way to go to catch Heinrich, who raised $181,000 during the second quarter of the year, but his first-week total is respectable. Democratic Party insider Bryon Paez is also in the race, but we don\u2019t know anything about how his campaign is going. Before <st1:place st=\"on\">Adams<\/st1:place> announced his first-week fundraising, it would have been safe to say he was a distant third in this race. Now, we\u2019ll have to wait for news from the Paez campaign before we know more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We\u2019ll also have to see if <st1:place st=\"on\">Adams<\/st1:place> can keep up the pace. As an attorney, he should be able to raise some money, but the first $10,000 could have been the easy cash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">What\u2019s certain is that the successful candidate, who will need all the money he can to battle <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, is going to have to spend time and money on the primary.
