{"id":20935,"date":"2010-08-26T21:57:04","date_gmt":"2010-08-27T03:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=20935"},"modified":"2011-10-10T11:26:45","modified_gmt":"2011-10-10T17:26:45","slug":"hall-refuses-to-debate-mccamley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/08\/hall-refuses-to-debate-mccamley\/","title":{"rendered":"Hall refuses to debate McCamley"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_20820\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20820\" title=\"Hall, Ben\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Hall-Ben.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ben Hall<\/p><\/div>\n<p>District 5 Public Regulation Commission candidate\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.benhall.us\/\">Ben Hall<\/a> has rejected a challenge from his Democratic opponent to debate him several times across the district before the Nov. 2 election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026just because two opposing candidates do not interact with one another along the campaign trail that does not lead to the degradation of trust between the public and elected officials,\u201d the Republican Hall wrote in an e-mail sent to Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\">Bill McCamley<\/a> and members of the media this evening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate your invitation to debate but I will respectfully decline. With as many events that are coming up in September and October I am sure we will cross paths somewhere along the campaign trail,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Hall didn\u2019t give a reason in his letter for rejecting McCamley\u2019s challenge. But he did say he can \u201cinteract with the public and inform them of my background, knowledge of issues and my experience thru my web site, e-mail and the many forms of media that are available.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19525\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19525\" title=\"McCamley, Bill\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/McCamley-Bill.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bill McCamley<\/p><\/div>\n<p>McCamley challenged Hall <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/08\/prc-hopeful-will-respond-to-debate-challenge-this-week\/\">earlier this month<\/a> to jointly appear at 10 forums across the district this month and next month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026since we are both participating in this election as publicly financed candidates with limited budgets for traditional campaign strategies, the opportunity to communicate directly with possible constituents in a thoughtful, meaningful, and detailed manner should be something we should seek with open arms,\u201d McCamley wrote in his e-mail to Hall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been a number of years since anyone has participated in a comprehensive series of debates like this would be, and hopefully it would set a precedent for candidates in other races,\u201d McCamley wrote.<\/p>\n<p><em>As I\u2019ve disclosed in the past, I\u2019m friends with McCamley.
