{"id":2093,"date":"2007-08-13T14:17:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-13T20:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/08\/richardson-climbing-in-national-polls\/"},"modified":"2007-08-13T14:17:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-13T20:17:00","slug":"richardson-climbing-in-national-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/08\/richardson-climbing-in-national-polls\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson climbing in national polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RsC8iEuF4dI\/AAAAAAAADGM\/pDkDon_ZYd0\/s1600-h\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RsC8iEuF4dI\/AAAAAAAADGM\/pDkDon_ZYd0\/s200\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098282071752040914\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>A new national poll of likely Democratic primary voters has Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardsonforpresident.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson\u2019s<\/a> support climbing to 7 percent, the highest it\u2019s been in any recent national poll.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanresearchgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">American Research Group poll<\/a>, conducted Thursday through Sunday, surveyed 600 likely Democratic primary voters and has a margin of error of 4 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> leads in the new poll with 36 percent of the vote, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> has 21 percent and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnedwards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Edwards<\/a> has 16 percent. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joebiden.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Biden<\/a> is at the margin of error with 4 percent, while no other candidate is above 1 percent and 12 percent said they are undecided.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> was at 3 percent in the group\u2019s July poll, 5 percent in June, and 2 percent in the three months before that, so it\u2019s his best showing thus far.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The makeup of those who support <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> is interesting. His support among Democrats \u2013 85 percent of those surveyed \u2013 is at 7 percent, while his support among independents who are likely to vote in Democratic primaries and caucuses in their states \u2013 15 percent of those surveyed \u2013 is at 9 percent. Among men, his support is at 11 percent, while it is at 3 percent among women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Another national poll out today has <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s support at 4 percent. This one, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/2008_democratic_presidential_primary\" target=\"_blank\">Rasumssen Reports<\/a>, has Clinton at 40 percent, Obama at 25 percent and Edwards at 13 percent, with no other candidate above the margin of error and 11 percent of voters undecided.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The poll of more than 1,000 likely Democratic primary voters was conducted Aug. 6-12 and has a margin of error of 3 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In recent national polls, Richardson has scored anywhere between 1 and 7 percent, but his average, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2008\/president\/us\/democratic_presidential_nomination-191.html\" target=\"_blank\">Real Clear Politics<\/a>, is 3.6 percent, so both new polls have him moving in a direction that\u2019s positive for his campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city> makes move in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state>; <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> owns <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">El Paso<\/st1:place><\/st1:city><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state>, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> was, for a time, threatening to overtake Obama for third place after being the first to air television commercials there. Obama recently began airing ads in that state, and the two newest polls have him catching Clinton and Edwards, with <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> a distant fourth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city> began airing her first television ads in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> today, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20070813\/ap_on_el_pr\/clinton_ads;_ylt=AqzoBe2SkDBWFdt1M8yGeris0NUE\" target=\"_blank\">Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> was climbing when he was being given free reign of the airwaves. Now that the frontrunners are also on television, it will be interesting to see in the next few weeks whether he keeps gaining ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/origin.elpasotimes.com\/election\/ci_6587611\" target=\"_blank\">El Paso Times<\/a>, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has by far the most support in that city, at least financially. Through June 30, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> received more than twice the amount of money from El Pasoans than that given to all other candidates combined.
