{"id":2088,"date":"2007-08-10T11:24:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-10T17:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/08\/sanchez-named-state-democratic-party-director\/"},"modified":"2007-08-10T11:24:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-10T17:24:00","slug":"sanchez-named-state-democratic-party-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/08\/sanchez-named-state-democratic-party-director\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanchez named state Democratic Party director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Laura Sanchez, a native of Deming, is the new executive director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmdemocrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Party of New Mexico<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Party Chairman Brian Col\u00f3n made the announcement today in a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cLaura Sanchez is a model New Mexico Democrat. Her education and experience will help me advance the electoral prospects of Democrats at all levels,\u201d he said. \u201cSanchez\u2019s knowledge of the state, her life story, legal background and work experience in legislative bodies and with advocacy groups make her tremendously qualified for this demanding job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sanchez said she is \u201chonored and thrilled\u201d to be selected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe Republicans have sought to systematically tear apart the fabric of our communities, gutting workplace protections, under-funding the educational system, pillaging our environment and neglecting the health care crisis in America, not to mention continuing to send our young service men and women off to fight a misguided war,\u201d she said. \u201cClearly, we need a Democrat in the White House. As executive director, I will work to ensure that <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> goes blue in November 2008 and elects a Democratic president.\u201d<span style=\"\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sanchez will be leaving her position with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrdc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Natural Resources Defense Council<\/a> to take the job. She is an attorney who worked with the Senate Judiciary Committee during the state\u2019s 2007 legislative session. She has prior experience in get-out-the-vote operations and with other political groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She has a master\u2019s in public administration and a bachelor\u2019s in political science from the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype>  of <st1:placename st=\"on\">Arizona<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>. Her law degree is from the <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype> of <st1:placename st=\"on\">California<\/st1:placename>&#8211;<st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Los   Angeles<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laura Sanchez, a native of Deming, is the new executive director of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.
